What’s the difference between a baby elephant and Tina’s new book?

A baby elephant takes 2 years to be birthed. Tina’s memoir took 5.
And now that the book has finally come out into the world, things are coming at me at a dizzying pace. Storm of the i won the gold for both “Biography” and “Layout & Design” from the Colorado Independent Publishers Association for 2010. And I just got the news that the book is a finalist for a Benjamin Franklin award, the winner to be announced at a gala in New York before BookExpo America (the big event of the year in the publishing world) which opens at the Javits Center in a few weeks. So Mark and I (my younger son and writing partner) are headed off to the big city.
I’ve been doing author events (Borders on the 29th Street Mall got the biggest crowd they’ve ever had at that store! I can’t believe it.) and I’ve been invited to do my multimedia presentation to 200-300 people in Denver this December! All this is pretty amazing to me but the emails I’ve been receiving from people that have had a chance to read the book … that’s what inspires me most.
I want to use this space to start a community of people interested in making their lives better by sharing their inner journey. The book is an opportunity to look within, a mirror. So let the conversation begin …
I loved, loved your book. It was gut wrenching and funny and full of spirit and emotion. I had a whole rush of thoughts and feelings as I was reading it. I actually had to take notes! The way you described your feelings of loss really touched me—I lost a young son. The writing was so vivid, I had to put the book down; but, then had to get right back to it. What I love the most is that despite it all, you are a full human being who has lived as you have chosen in so many respects. Just wanted to let you know that I feel it was an honor and a privilege to have taken your journey with you. J
